Sakhu started its life in 2002 when Wezi Ximiya and Dr Antonie van Rensburg formed a co-operative called – Sakhubukumkani Co-Op Ltd. Our vision was to transform communities through change, opportunities and investments, to enable people to have choices to make.
 
One of the memorable events in the history of the company was to conceptualise, design, and create the "South African Micro-finance Apex Fund" for the department of Trade and Industry (dti), providing unsecured loans to micro and small enterprises, building 12 Partner Organisations with 100,000 customers in less than 3 years.
